DULUTH Ga. (March 24, 2023) – A few weeks ago tragedy struck the Wende family when their expecting daughter arrived four months early. Avery Tessa Wende was born at 1 pound 3 ounces on February 24, 2023. She was a fighter through and through but sadly lost her fight on March 3, 2023.
The team and Georgia Swarm organization have been rallying around Craig Wende and the Wende family showing their support, carrying on Averys legacy by wearing helmet stickers in her honor. When one bright young fan heard about what the Wende family has gone through she decided to take it to the next level.
Karaline Apoian, an 11-year old who plays lacrosse locally took to social media saying she is dedicating her season to Avery Wende. Apoian wrote “A.W.” on her lacrosse stick and for every goal or point she tallies this season she will donate $5 to her local children’s hospital in Avery Wende’s name to help children and families in need.
Within the first night of her announcement, Apoain turned heads and warmed many hearts, resulting in others following in her footsteps. That is one of Apoain’s objectives, to have as many people in as many locations possible participate. Her main goal is to carry on Avery Wende’s legacy and help other children and families who are going through tough times.
If you too would like to join in on #GoalsForAvery here is how you can:
If you choose to match Karaline, the Swarm will be promoting how many goals she totals after each game and at the end of the season so you know how much to donate to your local children’s hospital. She is currently up to two goals!
Karaline, the Wende family, and Georgia Swarm want to remind you that #GoalsForAvery is to carry on Avery’s name and help others in need.
Thank you to those who are joining in on the cause.
