Georgia Swarm Complete Trade with Philadelphia Wings for Defenseman Liam Byrnes

DULUTH, GA – October 11, 2023 – The Georgia Swarm have acquired defenseman Liam Byrnes from the Philadelphia Wings in exchange for the 2nd round pick in the 2024 NLL Entry Draft.

“We’re excited to add a veteran defensive player to our team,” said Swarm Head Coach Ed Comeau. “We had Byrnes early in his career and we know he will fit in well with our team and supply us in size, physicality, and with his ability to transition up the floor. We look forward to welcoming Liam to training camp this year.”

Byrnes, the Swarm’s 44th overall pick in the 2016 NLL Entry Draft, rejoins the team after an exceptional season with the Philadelphia Wings, where he played 17 games in the 2022-23 season. During the 2021-2022 season with Panther City Lacrosse Club, Byrnes played in all 18 games and achieved career highs in games played (18), goals (4), assists (6), loose balls (137), and caused turnovers (26).

Byrnes, who finished as Marquette University’s all-time leader in ground balls and turnovers, represented Team USA at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championships in San Diego. Additionally, Byrnes played a pivotal role in the Waterdogs Lacrosse Club’s 2022 Championship victory in the Premier Lacrosse League, further solidifying his reputation as a key defensive player.
